over 200 classroom hours (per MDHHS guidelines)

9:00AM – 5:00PM

Clinical Hours:
32 hours

Prerequisites:
Must be at least 18 years old to apply for a license with MDHHS after program completion
Must be a high school graduate or have your GED

Must submit the following records prior to the first day of class:

  • COVID vaccines or exemption documentation
  • Physical exam showing good health
  • Negative TB test within 60 days
  • Proof of immunity to MMR and Varicella (titer blood draw required)
  • Proof of Hep B series or declination form
  • Current Tdap
  • Current season influenza vaccine
    ** Student is responsible for the cost of these items

Course fee includes EMT Textbook, Software Education, BLS Certification, and NREMT Exam Fee.

Description


The purpose of this course is to prepare you to respond to medical emergencies and provide on-scene treatment, stabilization and ambulance transport of ill or injured patients.

You will learn CPR, anatomy and physiology, airway management, patient assessment, care of medical and traumatic emergencies, blood borne pathogen protection, patient extrication from damaged vehicles, patient transport, HazMat response tactics, and incident command.

The LSTI Emergency Medical Technician course will prepare you for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam, State of Michigan licensure and to become an EMS professional. Students who successfully complete this course meet MDHHS requirements for an Emergency Medical Technician license.
Course applications are submitted to MDHHS for approval.

This course is designed for individuals looking to begin their career in EMS as well as healthcare professionals looking to enhance their employment opportunities. Successful completion of this course will offer participants job opportunities at Hospital Emergency Departments, Urgent Care Clinics, Municipal and Private EMS Agencies and other healthcare environments. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers training and certification is also a component of this course.

Payment Policy:

Payments for services rendered at LSTI will be consistent with current LSTI Financial Policy. The LSTI Payment Plan is offered for initial EMS education courses only (MFR, EMT-B, EMT-S, EMT-P and EMT-I/C) and comprises the following:

Initial payment of 50% of course fee payable at time of registration.
50% of outstanding balance will be due at the 25% course completion point.
Remaining balance will be due at the 50% course completion point.
A late payment is defined as a payment received at our business office after the due date. A service fee of $25 will be added to a student’s account for each occurrence of late payments. If payment is more than 15 days late, the student will be placed on administrative suspension from the course until payment is received by our business office. Any students placed on administrative suspension will not be allowed to participate in classroom sessions and will not be allowed to participate in any clinical and/or internship rotations until all balances due are reconciled. All course requirements must still be met to successfully pass the course. A final notice letter will be mailed to the student after payment is late more than 15 days. If a payment is not received within 15 days of being sent a final notice letter, then the student’s account will be sent to a collection agency. Additionally, a $25 service fee will be added for any returned checks. The service fee will be in addition to the late fee.
